Polignano a Mare
Polignano a Mare is the hometown of Domenico Modugno, to whom a statue overlooking the sea has been dedicated. With its many terraces offering views of the “blue painted blue,” it is a highly sought-after destination for both Italians and foreigners. The historic center of Polignano embodies the legacy of the peoples who lived and fought on this land, leaving traces of the knowledge of their time in both the architecture and the culture itself, which has evolved over time. The first thing to do upon arriving in Polignano a Mare is to walk along the stone path toward Lama Monachile, where you’ll find an incredible white pebble beach sheltered by rocky cliffs—it’s the town’s most famous beach and one of the most photographed in Puglia. The main attractions are undoubtedly the caves, including:
- La Grotta delle Rondinelle
- Grotta Azzurra
- La Grotta dei Fidanzati
- Grotta Palazzese, which also houses a restaurant
